I have lately installed my three panaflo fans on a thermochill 120.3 and they are quite noisy at full speed. I've read around that with a shroud between the fan and the rad the noise would reduce substenially and the airflow would be better.

Any chance of seeing some here?

using a shroud on anything will reduce the noise as there is less turbulence.

have you found a source for these? remembering you'll be one of very few that would want them due to the fact thermochill + shroud + fan = loss of most ya space in your case!

Altough I have a CM-Stacker, which has plenty of space inside, I have build a box for my rad which will go under the case. I had planned for a 1" shroud when I was building the box. I haven't managed to find any right now?

well if it was me i would get some 18mm mdf cut 2 sections the same size as the rad. then use a hole cutter to cut the holes for the 2 fans. once this was done i'd bolt through the rad's shroud then the 2 bits of mdf (36mm) and the fan.

yes i know ive missed a few stages but hey you get the idea. little more time you could make that look very nice!

All the commercial shrouds available (eg: Coolingworks etc) for the Thermochills are a poor fit. We were sent samples, and they overhung the rads too much so it was pointless stocking them.

If you're gonna make a shroud, a sheet of Aluminium from B&Q and a jigsaw should allow you to produce one of these:

A taiwanese firm - we're working on getting them, but in the meantime here's my easier version...

(Clicking above pic will get you the PDF - A3 Printer required to print at 1:1)

Innit amazin what you can come up with in an hour?! The above will increase the shroud standoff depth to 30mm + existing 9mm shroud depth... giving more or less a 40mm shroud. To get deeper, just add 10mm or whatever to each side & end piece. Cut with jigsaw and drill... fold... flip over and seal corners on inside with silicon sealant, or if you can get it welded or whatever then even better. Use neoprene to make a gasket to seal it against the rad should you so desire, or again, head for the silicon sealant (tip.... splurge loada silicon sealant into a tub and mix in black poster paint to get black silicon sealant.... use quickly tho)

Anodise, paint or plate to prevent corrosion. Personally I'd try and get some fingerless Zintec to make it out of, but that's hard to come by these days and can be expensive.

You should be able to adapt the above slightly to get the sloped ends etc shown in the photos above...

(Just use the edge of a desk and yer body weight to do the folds)

the venturi(s) on the fan body make them a bad choice for a shroud as they raise the (airflow) resistance...

That aluminium shroud looks tops, thanks Marci. I think I'll wait until you have some.

This is why I like these forums over others, because although Over-Clock UK don't have the item you are looking for they always try to give you some help and possibly a solution.

Use an old fan thats been gutted (it the whole middle bit removed). See picture below... The fan thats right next to the rad has no blades/middle bit. Very easy and can be very cheap.

I laugh at your lack of space. HAH!

I like the dead fan no messing about with tin snip and folding sheet metal, also it's enviromentaly friendly re-using dead components a bit like cooking roadkill:)

Just spotted that, came over to say congrats biggrin.gif

With some clever planning you could make one thats got a V shape to it, and use 4 fans wink.gif or 8 in pull-pull wacko.gif

Sam C
