I've tried everything to dull the vibrations from my eheim 1250, at the moment its sitting on some small bits of foam thats used to kill vibrations and noise in tornado fighter jets but even that doesn't help. Even if i get the pump nice n quiet some other part of my case will start vibrating because of it. I've even tried suspending it but that was to impractical.
so what do you do? :( -------------------- |

Most tend to use the antivibration pump mounting kits but unfortunately we can't get them anymore (am trying to source a new supplier at the mo).
In the past I've just used a piece of neoprene foam laid across the base of my case for the pump, neoprene foam cut into gaskets between fans, rad & case.... -------------------- I'm just a forum admin... I don't work here...

i have exactly same prob.
best thigns so far: cut up peices of tygon/other tubing, very soft foam (useless as it got squashed and stopped helping), two books on on top of other. worst things: submersing pump inside res/plastic biscuit tin, asaka pax mate foam, bubblewrap i havent tryed it yet, but i think a sponge (the type you wash cars with) would be v good. -------------------- 1700+ DUT3C @ 2.42ghz 11x220 - 2.06v [] Nf7-S R2 [] 2x512MB Corsair XMS3500 2-2-2-12 2.9v []

I've taken my antivibe kit out at the mo so I have more flexibility when it comes to placing my res (have lost all my PCI slots now as well!! (Hopefully the replacement board has no sound probs like mine had!) mounted it on a piece of mousemat last night and still as quiet as anything!! I will take the mouse mat out and use velcro strips (v strong ones!) as they are supposed to kill vibrations and secure really well as well!

You would be best off using the smallest bits of foam/sponge that will support the pump because that way there is less surface to transmit vibrations and noise. as I said I'm currently using foam used on tornado fighter jets...I got my dad to send me some through from his work, I've worked out that 4 small bits in each corner work perfect but for some reason other parts of my case wan't to vibrate now

it depends acctually what sort of foam it is. unless it is VERY soft and easy to squash there will be large viabrations - think of it like sound traveling through a wall.. bass goes easly through cos the freq is low, where as treble doesnt go through atall cos its high freq. pumps will be low freq becuase they work on mains = 50hz (so they will spin at 3k rpm max if i remeber my 3 phase motors lessons ...) which makes the pump vibrate muchly through most materials. sponge is best because one side is no way linked to the other side in any solid way unlike rubbery stuff (i tryed feet from a small fridge and my router) and books are alsmot as good but because they are linked solidly ( as paper has no freedom to move) low freq sounds get through
REPLiCAS - your case vibrates becasue the foam is letting the vibrations pass through it instead of absorbing them. one large peice should be best aswell imo -------------------- 1700+ DUT3C @ 2.42ghz 11x220 - 2.06v [] Nf7-S R2 [] 2x512MB Corsair XMS3500 2-2-2-12 2.9v []

sorry, back to the question, if its making lots of noise have u tried the superglue trick? none of my pumps have ever suffered with vibration problems. -------------------- ![]() |

Hi, i'm afraid this isnt very usefull for your problem of silencing your existing pump and i have absolutely no knowledge of water cooling computers what so ever. But anyway 4-5 years ago i had tropical fish, and i had an external filter made by Fluval and it was almost completely silent even sitting on a wooden floor. Now the problem is that it was way larger than the pumps on this site and had greater flow rate etc... and would require a hole in the case to pass in the tubing, but i was wondering if you guys have ever tried them. Eheim do equivalents too.
I think they would work great because they have large capacity tanks that are intended for holding bags of peat or carbon to filter the water, so i guess that extra water volume would aid cooling the water temps a little more. Another bonus is that you can detach the tubes from the pump without spillage cause they have inbuilt one way valves :D Do pc watercooling kits use these or is changing water etc.. a hassle? -------------------- Abit NF7S v.2.0

I've tried foam, sponge, blue tac, bubble wrap and I didn't get as much luck with them as puting four 10mm by 10mm bits of foam on each corner (this foam is kinda like the neoprene that marci mentioned but more dense (like me)). Four of these on each corner seems to be working for now -------------------- |

Added the velcro and works great highly advisable
secures the pump, looks neat and kills the vibrations off well -------------------- .: Krakatoa :. - LL V1000 - GA965P-DS3 - Intel C2D e4300 - 1GB DDR2-667 - GeForce 7900GT VF900 - 500w Enermax Liberty - |
